The Internet-Evolution of Internet

Internet:-

The Internet is a network of networks-a global communication system that links together several individual networks. As a result virtually any computer or any network can communicate with each other. Each of the network on the internet provides resources that add to the abundance of goods, services and information accessible via the internet.
The internet become so important that its use is considered an essential part of computer use.

"The Internet is the worldwide collection of networks that connects millions of businesses, government agencies,Educational institutions and individuals".

One of the major reasons business ,home, and other user purchase computers and mobile devices is for Internet access.

The Internet major services:-

The most commonly used internet services are
  • World wide web
  • Chat rooms
  • Online services
  • File transfer protocol (FTP)
  • Instant messaging
  • Electronic mail
  • Discussion forums
  • Peer-to-peer services

Evolution of internet:-

The seeds of the internet were planted in 1969,when the advanced Research Projects Agency of the U.S.Department of defense began connecting computers at different universities and defense constructors. The resulting network was called ARPANET.

The original ARPANET (ARPA) consisted  of four main computers, one each located at the university of California at Los Angeles, the university of California at Santa Barbara, the stanford research Institute, and the university of Utah. Each of these computers served as a host on the  computer.
A host most commonly known today as a server,is any computer that provides services and connections to other computer on he networks.Hosts often use high speed communications to transfer data and messages over a network.By 1984,ARPANET had more than 1,000 individual computers linked as hosts.Today, million of hosts connect to this network, which know is known as the internet.

At its heart, the internet uses high speed data lines called backbones,to carry huge volume of traffic.Reglonal and local networks connect to these backbones, enabling any user on any network to exchange data with any other user on any other network. The first ARPA was basically a large network serving only a handful of  users ,but it expanded rapidly.

Today:Still Growing:-

Today the internet connects the  thousand of networks and hundred of millions of users around the world.it is a huge cooperative community with no central ownership. This lack of ownership is the important feature of the internet. Now the internet landscape growing at an exponential rate.it not now only about computers ,laptops, and tablets. There are now multitude of devices that are internet connected and that are going to be connected.
