Data communications and Networking

Data Communications:-

The transferring of data from one place to another through a network is called data communication. The transmission of data occur through a medium either wired or wireless connections.

The effectiveness of data communications system depends on four fundamental characteristics.....
Delivery,Accuracy,Timeliness, Jitter. Communication technologies are everywhere. Many require that you subscribe to an internet service provider. With others,an organization such as business or school provides communications services to employee, students, customers.

Components:-

Data communication system have five components ...
  1. Message:-The message is the data to be communicated. The data can be of any type.It may be video, audio, text, images.
  2. Sender:-The sender is a device that sends the data message.it can be a computer, handset, telephone.
  3. Receiver:-The receiver is the device that receives the message.it can be a computer, workstation, television, telephone.
  4. Transmission medium:-The transmission medium is the physical path by which message send to receiver.
  5. Protocol:-A protocol is a set of rules that govern data communication.

Wired and wireless Communications:-

Computer communications describes a process in which two or more computers pr devices transfer data, instructions and information media via a communication device.
For examples the communication devices are..modems,Wireless access point, and routers. Some communication involve Cables, and wires others are sent wirelessly through the air.

Wired Communications:-

Data communication with Telephone lines:-

Data communication occur through wired or wireless connections.that are specifically set up for the network called dedicated media. The alternative to using dedicated media is to use the telephone system called the plain old telephone system for data communications. Its a dial-up connections.
  • It is slow process.

By using Digital Connections:-
When the telephone companies complete the transmission  and digital lines are installed to every building the transmission becomes very simpler. The data transmission through digital cables will be affected in three ways..
  • Data can be sent very quickly
  • There will be no need for a modem
  • A different phone will be needed.A digital phone that translates voice into bits rather than analog signal is needed.

Through Modem:-

We can exchange data through modem.A Modem transmission speed is measured in bits per second(bps).Today's fastest modem for dial-up connections on standard phone lines have a maximum theoretical speed of 56,000 bits per second.

Wireless Communications:-

There are many wireless connections major are discussed here..

Wi-Fi:-
WiFi uses radio signal to provide high speed Internet an network connections to computers and devices capable of communicating via Wi-Fi.

Bluetooth:-
Bluetooth uses short range radio signals to enabled computrrs  and devices to communicate with each other.e.g Bluetooth headsets allow you to connect a Bluetooth enabled phone to a headset wirelessly.

Cellular radio:-
Cellular radio uses the cellular network to enable high speed internet connections  to devices with built-in compatible technology such as smart phones.

Networking:-

"When one or more computers is connected to each other in such a manner that data is connected from one computer to another is called networking".

Network is a collection of computers and devices connected together via wirelessly.

Functions:-

  • Networks allows many users to share and access data
  • Network open a new ways to communicate such as e-mail,instant messaging.
  • By allowing users to share expensive hardware resources such as printers, Networks reduce the cost of running an organization.
